Customize over 2900 stitch patterns

The Stitch Altering Area visualizes your sewing stitches and edits in real time. Zoom in and out, rotate the view and see the stitches magically come to life on the screen prior to sewing on your project.

10-inch color display with modern touch screen technology

The large interactive touch screen with gesture capabilities, icons with text descriptions, and intuitive interactions makes sewing and embroidery easier than ever. It can be operated with touch gestures, the included touch screen pen, or an optional computer mouse

Automatic Needle Threader

Push a button and the needle is automatically threaded - size 70 needles and larger.  So fast, so easy to change thread color when sewing, quilting or embroidering.  

Built-In Stitch Regulation  

Use the BERNINA 5.5mm BISR Stitch Plate with Sensor and whichever quilting foot you choose to achieve perfectly and equally sized quilt stitches no matter your speed.  Automatic Stitch Regulation is now possible with Ruler Work, and all quilting applications, with the innovative BERNINA Integrated Stitch Regulator (BISR.)

Automatic stitch plate recognition

Insert and go! Stitch with any of the three included stitch plates and the B990 only sews stitches that are compatible with it.  No more breaking a needle with a zigzag stitch and a single hole stitch plate!  

Choose or create your perfect stitch

There are 2,927 stitch patterns to choose from - and each can be re-sized from 25% to 500% using the new Jumbo Stitch!  You wish the stitch was a bit different?  Change it on-screen, or create a new one of your own using Stitch Designer.  Undo and redo allows you the flexibility to try something new and then go back to the previous design. 

 

On Screen Guide at the tip of your Fingers

The instruction manual (provided in hard copy) is also digitally located in your machine, as are tutorials.  Search within using the Help Center, or connect via built-in WiFi with a tablet or smartphone.  

Gigantic Embroidery 

It's now possible to stitch - embroidering or quilting in the hoop - within a 16.1" x 12" area with the new Giant Hoop.  The ergonomic twist lock closure makes hooping and re-hooping easy; that quilt will be done in no time with less re-hooping needed.  The hoop has inner markings and a template to easily align that 12" square.

Place your designs to suit your project

Using 2-Point and 4-Point Placement it's easy to place designs just where you want them.  Keep them in original format or morph or proportionally fit the design to fit the area.  Use Virtual Positioning to verify the exact stitch points for ultimate precision.

Customize your quilt designs

New: Customizable Quilt Designs can be scaled to any size, modified for stitches per inch, and enabled with enhanced quilt securing functions for perfect computerized quilting on your domestic machine.  Compatible with BQM, HQF, PAT, PLE, QLI and TAP formats.

Organize your stitches and designs

Using the File Manager, keep and organize your stitches and designs within your named folders.  Move entire folders or copy and paste them from the USB stick - it's easy!

Got BERNINA Version 9 Software?

Transfer designs to/from the software to your WiFi enabled B990.  Monitor the stitchout status using the App on your smartphone in real time.  There are in-app notifications available that makes embroidering more efficient and convenient.
