Longarm 102

Longarming 102: Guided Quilting Techniques.

This class will focus on quilting techniques, and achieving a specific look to your quilting. The designs will be either marked, pre-determined by the piecing on the top, or stitched using a pattern. Tools used include pantographs and rulers.

If you have a pantograph you'd like to try, or rulers you want to learn how to use, bring them along.

  1. Marking a quilt top using the following techniques: Stencils, Golden Threads, freezer paper and chalk. Planning placement of border and block designs will be addressed.
  2. Using a ruler: incorporating longarm rulers in your free motion quilting: how to hold them, how to stitch alongside a ruler. Basic shapes and uses of each one discussed: straight edge (SID, cross hatching), curves (clamshells, arcs), specialty shapes.
  3. Pantographs: how to stitch a pantograph, with regard to directional motifs or quilt, considerations for laying out the design & how to use the pantograph kit.
